How it Works

For a fire to burn, it needs heat, fuel, and oxygen. A fire blanket works by cutting off the oxygen supply, effectively “suffocating” the flames. Because fiberglass is non-conductive, it is also safe for use on small electrical fires. 

Primary Uses

• Kitchen Fires: Ideal for grease or oil fires where using water would be dangerous.
• Clothing Fires: Can be wrapped around a person whose clothes have caught fire to extinguish the flames.
• Emergency Escape: Can be used as a temporary heat shield when escaping a burning area. 

Safety Tips

• Single Use Only: Fire blankets should be disposed of and replaced after one use, as the fibers can be compromised by heat.
• Don’t Throw: Gently place the blanket over the fire starting from the edge nearest you to avoid pushing air into the flames.
• Wait to Cool: Leave the blanket in place for at least 15–30 minutes after the fire is out to ensure it doesn’t reignite.
